Although the new 5-star DPS characters released to the left and right in Genshin Dampak Impact, Diluc remains the gold standard for dealing damage. It was because he was the simplest and most unconditional damage dealer in the game. However, that doesn’t mean players can just leave it as it is and expect six-figure damage or more. One has to pair it with a suitable support.
For Diluc, there are only two options when it comes to dealing damage: Melt or Vaporize elemental reactions. The first one lets him deal 2x the damage while the second one is 1.5x. Paired with Dawn (Elemental Burst) and Searing Onslaught (Elemental Skill), Diluc can easily deal hundreds of thousands of damage in a few seconds. To achieve this, a certain character is required.
Updated March 1, 2022, by Scott Vengel: Genshin’ impactThe exciting cast of characters is constantly evolving with each concurrent update. In version 2.5, the game released Yae Miko, a new Electro DPS character. While this new arrival has changed the status of DPS and Electro characters in Genshin Dampak Impact, many in the community were also excited by the rumors about Kamisato Ayato and Yelan. That said, Diluc remains a major player in the scope Genshin’ impactDPS community. With Diluc fans in mind, the article has been updated to include more team and character compositions for these Pyro users.
In order to achieve the highest amount of instance damage possible with Diluc, there is no better choice than using Melt’s reaction. The character required to apply Melt doesn’t require any artifact stats apart from Energy Recharge or cooldown reduction perhaps, but it’s optional. They just need to apply Cryo consistently.
Kaeya is by far the best Cryo applicator for Diluc. It’s all thanks to his Elemental Burst which can give Diluc a few seconds of Cryo damage on contact. The catch is that Diluc has to be next to an enemy when using this, so be sure to take that down before firing Dawn.
Chongyun is another excellent option for Diluc which is also easy to do and can be more consistent than Kaeya depending on how fast the player can weave in normal attacks. His Elemental Burst covers Cryo’s damage and stats and also incorporates Diluc’s normal attacks with Cryo. It takes more effort than Kaeya and is easy to mess up but works pretty well.
Diluc is a character who can be said to always need a healer. Especially in a grassy environment, Diluc can take a lot of damage from burning grass and enemy attacks. Of the large number of healers in Genshin Dampak ImpactQiqi is one of the best to pair with Diluc due to his advanced healing and Cryo application associated with his elemental skills.
Diona is a safe choice for those looking for a healer for their team as well. His Elemental Skill has a low cooldown and can quickly apply Cryo status to enemies. The charge attack alone deals Cryo damage. He was definitely better than Qiqi than applying Cryo status.
Melt deals dizzying numbers and all, but when adding up all the damage dealt Vaporize still wins. That’s because Hydro status effects are easier to apply on Genshin Dampak Impact. This is because character abilities have a more consistent Hydro application with lower cooldowns and more pronounced effects. So while Vaporize only increases Diluc’s damage by 1.5x, it increases it more often compared to Melt 2x.
So, the most effective Hydro applicator for Diluc is Xingqiu. Xingqiu’s Elemental Burst is similar to Kaeya but uses Hydro instead of Cryo. It also has a lower cooldown, making it more available to Diluc compared to Kaeya’s Burst. As an added bonus, Xinqiu is also one of the best sub-DPS characters in the game and can even pick up points if Diluc goes down by mistake.
One other character who can match Xinqiu to apply Hydro for Diluc’s Vaporize is Mona. He is more expensive and less accessible, being a 5 star. However, his abilities work well to give Diluc a consistent Hydro stat. Even something as simple as his normal attack applied Hydro. If anything, Mona can even swap places with Diluc for ultimate DPS as Vaporize deals 2x damage when triggered by Hydro.
As far as Vaporize healers go, Kokomi is the best healer to pair with Diluc. His skill allows the creation of Bake-Kurage, which passively heals and applies Hydro status to nearby enemies. This makes for a synergistic team composition when Kokomi is paired with Diluc, increasing both damage and healing output at the same time.
Healing, Support & Damage Increase
The first two character slots in the team are dedicated to Diluc and his Hydro/Cryo applicator. The third and fourth slots are good for additional heals or damage boosts. In terms of increased damage, not many can beat Swirl’s reaction accompanied by four Viridescent Veneers. The 4-part artifact bonus can lower Pyro’s elemental resistance by 40%. Think of it as a 40% increase in damage.
Any Anemo characters are great here, as the only thing players need from them are the Swirl and Viridescent Venerer effects. However, Venti went above and beyond. One of them, he can group enemies with a vacuum so that Diluc’s Dawn can hit them all. What’s more, Venti’s energy generator is pretty crazy and a great help when Diluc wants to spam his Dawn over and over again.
Sucrose would be a good alternative to Venti, especially for poorer players. He even comes with his own advantages such as being able to produce Swirl with just a normal attack. Despite that advantage, his abilities are mostly weaker versions of Venti.
Jean occupies an important position on the team here as she doubles as Swirl’s applicator and healer. He’s practically two characters in one. His Anemo abilities aren’t the best, at least compared to Venti and Sucrose.
Bennett is just a special character who suits Diluc like bread and butter. He gives Diluc an interesting Pyro Resonance, which means he deals a 25% increase in attack just by being at the party. More than anything else, it was Bennett’s Elemental Burst that allowed Diluc to his maximum potential. This is a damage enhancement field that also serves as a healing place. Even Jean couldn’t beat the role.
Zhongli works well with Diluc’s compositions thanks to his Jade Shield which lowers elemental resistance. This was also a direct damage increase and he didn’t even need the best artifacts for it. He’s optional though and will probably only work well if Jean is at the party and Bennett isn’t, freeing up a fourth slot for Zhongli.
Potential Team Composition
Diluc/Xingqiu/Sucrose/Qiqi: Diluc’s team composition focuses on elemental synchronization. Xingqiu and Qiqi created a frozen reaction together, Yawning and Melting one by one, while Sucrose offered the crowd’s support. The downside here is the lack of Pyro/Cryo resonance.
Diluc/Xiangling/Kaeya/Barbara: This is Diluc’s optimal free-to-play team. Xiangling added a Pyro resonance, while Kaeya created a Melt reaction. As a drawback, the Cryo and Hydro apps aren’t as powerful as the other characters.
Diluc/Bennett/Kaeya/Diona: This combination makes Diluc’s team composition a four-star friendly. Bennett offers attack resonance and support, while Kaeya and Diona add increased CRIT and Melt damage output. The drawbacks include the lack of passive application on easy characters, such as Xingqiu’s elemental skills.
Most Optimal Team: Diluc/Xinqiu/Bennett/Venti
As for Diluc’s most consistently destructive compositions, nothing can beat the party efficiency listed here. Usually played by letting Diluc empty his Elemental Skills on the target to activate the Crimson Witch 4-piece bonus set followed by Elemental Burst/Skill Venti. This will result in a Swirl and will lower their resistance to Pyro by 40%, thanks to the Viridescent Venerer.
After that, lay out Bennett’s Elemental Burst field for maximum damage, then switch to Xinqiu to activate his Elemental Burst to apply Hydro status. Finally, switch back to Diluc and turn off that Dawn for an astonishing six-figure damage figure. All of this must be done within 10 seconds of Diluc’s Elemental Skill. Rinse and repeat, assuming the target is alive and has not evaporated.
Genshin Dampak Impact available on mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is under development.
