5 Fun Blog Ideas in August to Liven Up Your Company Blog

There’s always a way to include fun blog ideas, even if you think you’re the driest industry out there.

Sure, we love our stand-up desk and office warehouse at BuzzFarmers’ offices, but my favorite space to work in is the conference table remade by Lorimer Workshop. Why? Because normally, when one person sat there, another teammate would join him and a great discussion would ensue. And, if you’re anything like me (the office eavesdropper), you’ll almost always join the conversation too. Unless, of course, you have your headphones are too loud and has drowned out everything that is happening around you.

Why did I bring this up? Well, last week we had a good discussion about corporate blogging, and how we choose what to share on our blogs and our clients’ blogs.

Often, our new clients will ask us about the benefits of blogging, and believe me, there are so many good reasons to share content on your company blog. During our recent conversation, Amanda, Jim, and I considered why all businesses should blog, and here’s what they had to say:


A blog is like a collection of 100+ landing pages that support the goals of your home page and sales page. They are like your friends helping you with your biggest informal questions, and then pointing to the best professional products to solve the questions you have.


I also consider it a more detailed or curated social media resource. It’s a way to share your company’s personality, and help your audience get to know you better. And that, of course, doesn’t even take into account the direct way you can use blogs for advertorials.

They were right, and guess what? There are even more reasons why all companies should have a thriving blog. At BuzzFarmers, we blog because we want to teach our audience what we know about corporate blogging and social media best practices. But is that the only reason to share content? Can fun blog ideas be shared on a company blog, or should you stick to “important” or “professional” posts? Our conversation last week turned to this question, and I was very motivated by Amanda and Jim’s thoughts on fun blog ideas, and how they can actually help business blogs.


The fun of grabbing loyalty points beyond skill. Everything in business is about relationships, and a fun post is like the conversation you had over lunch with a potential client after your big business meeting.


From a business point of view, I think a fun blog post is important because it gives your company personality. It gives you depth you can’t project from things like sales, statistics, and facts.

From a customer point of view, I like fun blog posts because I want to know who I am giving my business to. I would buy from a “friend” any time, even if the price was higher. Fun blog posts make me, as a customer, feel like I know the business beyond what’s on the website or storefront. I could go anywhere and get a good chef’s knife, but I prefer to buy one from someone I know who loves to cook and has a passion for sharing a good knife with me.

You may have noticed recently that we have tried to add a little personality to the BuzzFarmers blog. We have written about best coffee shop in Rhode Island?, the music we listen to for work, and what is remote work like? to our team. We don’t write about things that are somehow unrelated to our company, we just share a little bit more about us because we want to You to know our.

Fun Blog Ideas For Your Company Blog in August

1. August is American Artist Appreciation Month:

Follow in the footsteps of the Smithsonian by highlighting American artists or their work on your company blog. You don’t have to work in the art industry to write relevant posts about the importance of American art. If you are a marketing company, you can write posts about some of America’s most iconic marketing. The possibilities are endless.

2. International Left Hand Day: August 13

Time Magazine posted an article about Top 10 Left last year in honor of International Left Hand Day. What is the leader in your left-handed industry? Find out and write a post in their honor or go one step further and write a post highlighting some of the left-handed professionals from your industry.

3. Joke Day: August 16

Each field has a joke associated with it. Share some jokes in industry-only posts. If you can’t find a good joke to share – and we believe you can if you look around a bit – ask your employees to share their favorite – well deserved – joke.

Hubspot shared a great post full of marketing joke. Follow their best practices and allow your readers to Tweet the jokes you share.

4. National Dog Day: August 26

Honestly, this special day belongs to the encouragement of Napa, our office dog. Find a famous dog in your industry or a company that has office dogs working for them and write about them. Oh, and don’t ever think that you won’t be able to find a famous dog to highlight. The office dog above works in hotels, ice cream companies, landscapers, and job review companies. I have been told that you can check office dog interviewed by Napa if you’re looking for inspiration.

5. August is Audiobook Appreciation Month

Listen to a good audiobook lately? Is there an industry professional whose audiobook you’d like to check out? Do a list of posts that share these audiobooks with your readers. Another idea: a car or travel company could follow in Oprah’s footsteps and write a post outlining some of the latest and greatest audiobooks to listen to on the go.
